1. My dog has discovered that she can jump ONTO the dining room table. Saturday afternoon I made peanut butter blossoms which cooled, largely, while she was outside. I put the completed cooled ones away, but the last few (seven if you must know) needed some additional cooling time. So, I barricaded the table, let the dog in, and went upstairs to fold laundry. About 10 minutes later I came downstairs and found…Pippi standing ON the table eating the last cookie. I think I squeaked in shock, called B to come upstairs, and then chased the dog around the house screaming mean things at her. The PBBs represent the last of the baking. I have made: 1) kitchen sink cookies, 2) peppermint butter cookies, 3) sugar cookies, 4) spiced snowcaps, 5) peppermint chocolate crunch things, and 6) PBBs. I need to step away from the cookies or I will look like a cookie (and die of a heart attack) before long.
2. High School swim season has started with a bang. I had a meet last Wednesday at Boyertown, which is now my home pool. It was the first HS meet I have worked there though and seeing all 8 lanes was challenging but fun. I liked watching some of my “big kids” swim for the HS team. I have a break until the 1st week in Jan and then about a meet a week until the end of the season – 7 meets in all. I don’t know what I am going to do with all of my free time come March when I no longer have swim practice or meets. I am rethinking my plan to compete in a couple of meets this winter. All of a sudden (okay, not all of a sudden, it was pretty gradual) my shoulders went from feeling tight to actually hurting. As I am only swimming about 3 miles a week, that does not bode well for continued training. I am taking a week off from all upper body exercise (no weights either) and then I’ll try swimming again and see how it feels. Some people are just not built to be athletes. Adding my achy shoulders to my still inflamed hip, I realized that I am one of those people. I am not that into training that I will continue to push through actual pain (as opposed to just general soreness)…so it might be time to establish a different fitness goal or two. Body building perhaps? Ha!
3. B picked up E at school on Friday. They stayed the night in SC so E could see his grandparents and B could rest and then came home Saturday morning. We haven’t seen E since August so it is good to have him home. He will be here (or at his mom’s) until January 22. Supposedly he did well, though he said that last semester and we know how that turned out. He is retaking the psych course which gave him fits last year to try and erase the D on his transcript. That of course means he will be 3-6 credits behind where he needs to be to graduate on time. This summer the plan is to force him to get his drivers license and a job so that next year he can buy a car and get himself to and from wherever he needs to go, including summer classes at Alvernia or wherever.
4. One of the major reasons I am glad to have E home is his willingness to pet sit (for money) while we are visiting my sister next week. I feel much better about leaving Pippi knowing she will get some good attention and won’t be in the cage 24/7. All in all, it is a cheaper/better option to pay E to pet and house sit than to pay the pet sitter and beg our neighbors, plus he makes a nice chunk of money suitable for gratuitous spending over the holiday.
5. I still hate my job. I’m not sure when I will get out of this anti-work funk. I had a brief spurt of energy and interest a couple of weeks ago while focusing on a special project with a very short turn around. I got to work at home for 5 days in a row and racked up some comp time for this summer. I have SO much to do, I just can’t seem to focus on it.
6. K’s Christmas pageant was last Friday and I took a couple of hours off to go and watch. It was excellent. The singing was…mostly awful…but the kids were enthusiastic and serious about what they were doing and it was very cool to see all the kids dressed in their Christmas and Sunday best. I will once again say how very happy I am that she is at SCS this year!
7. B is working nights this week leading up to Christmas. I seriously dislike when he does this, but after I-don’t-know-how-many-years-of-it, I should be used to it. We both end up exhausted by the time Christmas gets here and then we both end up sick. This year we’ll end up sick and on our way to Florida instead of sick and convalescing at home. We leave Monday to head down to my sisters – two-daying it on the way down, but driving the entire 15 hours in one shot on Saturday when we come home. I can’t wait to see everyone!
